"No matter what anyone else is doing, think for yourself, interpret things however you see fit, and do what you think is right. Trust yourself. Even failures are achievements if you use them as learning opportunities."

Why did you choose the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design? What drew you to design?
Initially, my decision to choose this college was driven by a practical reason—it was the only institution in Texas offering an industrial design degree. At the time, I focused on finding a program that matched my career aspirations. However, as I reflect on my experience, I realize that this choice was far more meaningful than I initially understood. The education, experiences, and connections I gained here have profoundly shaped my personal and professional development. Looking back now, I wouldn't have changed a thing. It was the perfect place for me to grow and pursue my passion.

What is one of your favorite memories from your time on campus? Was there a particular professor who influenced your education?
I’ve shared countless special and meaningful moments with all of my industrial design professors, and even several architecture faculty. Jeff Feng helped me overcome mental blocks, Adam Wells honed my strengths, and Mark Kimbrough offered valuable leadership opportunities. George Chow not only taught me U.S. technical tools but also created a nurturing, family-like environment, while EunSook Kwon pushed me to truly come into my own. I feel deeply connected and grateful to have learned from and been supported by these incredible individuals.

Tell us about a typical day in your job. Do you have a particular design or business philosophy?
Always keep your attention on the desired outcome. Whether it’s the mission, vision, and goals of the company or your own career and life ambitions, understanding the 'why' behind your actions is crucial. When you focus on the purpose rather than just the tasks at hand, you set yourself on a continuous path of learning and personal growth. This mindset not only enhances your ability to contribute in meaningful ways but also helps you foster a positive and supportive environment for everyone around you. By staying true to your deeper motivations, you’ll help create a culture where both you and others can thrive.

What is one career accomplishment of which you are particularly proud? How do you feel the College prepared you for this?
Starting my own company has been one of the most pivotal moments of my life. The professors at the Hines College provided me with more than just technical skills—they equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to transform ideas into tangible realities. Their expertise goes beyond teaching how to solve problems through products, systems, and services; they also guide you through the process of bringing a concept to life in the real world. My very first pitch was a resounding success, and I owe a great deal of that achievement to the invaluable education and support I received at the Hines College. Their mentorship has been instrumental in turning my entrepreneurial dreams into a reality.

What is one valuable lesson you learned during your time at the Hines College?
No matter what anyone else is doing, think for yourself, interpret things however you see fit, and do what you think is right. Trust yourself. Even failures are achievements if you use them as learning opportunities.

What advice would you give to current architecture and design students?
If the skills you acquire here seem broad, it's because they truly are. Design thinking is a versatile approach with almost limitless applications across various fields. The key is to discover your life’s purpose or purposes, and then identify ways to pursue them that genuinely ignite your passion, no matter how unconventional or ambitious those paths may seem. Once you find that spark, pursue it with unwavering determination. By applying your Design Thinking skills, along with your creativity and emotional intelligence, to any challenge or goal, you will not only drive innovation but also accomplish extraordinary things. The combination of these tools and your unique perspective will empower you to make a meaningful impact in whatever you choose to do.
